Andersen’s Highland

The Danish poet Hans Christian Andersen (1805-1875) was a frequent traveller both abroad and in Denmark, where he often lodged in private accommodations.

Five times during the period from 1850 to 1859, Hans Christian Andersen visited the Drewsen family at the Silkeborg Paper Mill.

In his diaries, Hans Christian Andersen tells of several trips in the neighbourhood of Silkeborg – among others to the hill of Åsen and Himmelbjerget. Both at Åsen and at Himmelbjerget, a Hans Christian Andersen Bench is located today.
